An encounter with Arisekola

Tunde Fagbenle
Last Wednesday 18th, Alhaji Azeez Arisekola-Alao, the larger-than-life rabble-rouser Islamic leader and notable businessman of Ibadan, breathed his last. Until his death he was the deputy head of Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs and the declared Aare Musulimi of Yorubaland. It is reported that he died in a London hospital that afternoon of prostrate cancer.
Aare Arisekola was many things to many people. He was loved by many and detested by as many.
To the masses of Oyo State he was a philanthropist, and the benevolent giver of alms to the poor.To the Ibadan (and perhaps most of Yoruba) Muslims he was emblematic of their faith, a fearless proclaimer of its tenets and protector of its values. Amongst the Ibadan political and cultural leadership he was the highly influential, if not feared, godfather.

“Why We Did Not Kill Obasanjo” – Boko Haram Leader

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo
Information recently made available to 247ureports.com through a high ranking contact within the organizational structure of the terrorist Islamic group, Boko Haram reveals unnerving revelations regarding the recent attacks on Kano, Bauchi State – and the aborted attack of September 15, 2011 visit by former President of the federal republic of Nigeria, General Olusegun Aremu Obasanjo to the home of the in-law of the slain leader of the Boko Haram, Babakura Fuggu in Borno State.
It was gathered that the leader of Boko Haram, Imam Abubakar Shekau who is currently hiding away in Qoundere, Cameroun following the recent and ongoing attacks on Kano and Bauchi State – had deliberated seriously on the assassination of the former president of Nigeria, General Obasanjo on September 15, 2011 while on a visit to Borno State to the home of the in-law to the slain leader of Boko Haram [Ustaz Mohammed Yusuf].
According to the Boko Haram source, former President Obasanjo had made first contact with Yusuf’s in-lawal, Babakura Fuggu [eldest son of Yusuf's in-law] in early September 2012 concerning opening a channel of dialogue with the terrorist group. The leadership of the group took it uneasy with the choice of Babakura – [since the line of leadership did not automatically follow  family lineage as in traditional settings. As a 'religious' group they did not see Babakura as the rightful person to take over from Yusuf.] - For this reason, the leadership of the group ‘silently’ objected to the meeting between Babakura and Obasanjo....

Our Mothers Can’t Calculate Our Fees In Percentage…Tell Us In Naira & Kobo, LASU Students Tell Fashola

Lagos State university students have rejected the government’s decision to reduce the institution’s increased fees by 34-60 per cent.
Speaking at a press conference today where the issue was addressed, the students’ union president, Nurudeen Yusuf, said the state government has been insincere in its dealings with them.
“We do not accept the percentage reduction offered by the Government because in 2011 when the fees were increased, it was not done on percentage level. Rather, they made the pronouncement in Nigerian naira and kobo.”
“We urge the Government to come out in extant words as to how much will be payable by our students in naira and kobo and not in percentage. How do they expect our parents, the market women scrambling to pay our fees, to calculate the percentage?
“The Government is only trying to play jokers on our future, our destiny and the posterity of the state. Even if the governing council and the internal structure in the university will be put to their statutory work, we question the sincerity of the Government on this matter because the pronouncement of the fee was as a result of a Visitation Panel set up by the Government of which report was selectively adopted.”
We would only accept a 67 per cent reduction “across board” in our school fees which ranges between N197,750 and N348,750, the student leader said....

Military Repression Of Press Freedom

In the first installment of our reflection on the emerging dangerous scenario of attempts by 'khaki boys' to return Nigeria to the infamous periods of oppressive witch-hunt against media practitioners which got to a crescendo with the jailing of two journalists Tunde Thompson and Nduka Irabor by the General Muhammadu Buhari's military dictatorship.
We were able to establish without a shadow of doubts that the extent of rot that would follow the sinister attempts by the military to muzzle the press is that government of the day may have given authorization for the institutionalization of impunity, lawlessness and the resort to self -help and this goes a long way to give further weapon to the evil practitioners of jungle justice.
What will the Federal Government tell all those in the riotous crowd of irrational public who take delight in lynching any suspected criminal? If...

We live under the scorching sun with our children - Borno refugees

Add caption
Some refugees from Kala-Balge in Borno State who are currently taking refuge in the border between Nigeria and Cameroon have said that they are in a "hopeless condition."
A female refugee who did not give her name told the BBC Hausa service that they are suffering from hunger and lack of shelter and are in dire need of both, adding that many women and hundreds of children are now taking refuge at the border hopelessly.
"We're currently living under scorching sun with our children. There are no houses, no trees to hide under. We don't have food to eat and water to drink; there's just nothing for us. We only rely on God. We're in the border between Nigeria and Cameroon.
"We're too many to be counted. People are coming out from all the villages to this place for fear of being killed. As I speak, people are still fleeing," she said.
Kala-Balge is one of the many towns that have come under severe attacks from the Boko Haram members where many people were killed and hundreds of houses razed.
Amidst this hopeless situation, head of the National Emergency Management Agency (NENA) in charge of the north east Alhaji Muhammad Kanal said they were doing their best to assist the refugees but that they are facing serious challenges.
"We have arranged for the items to assist them with. We face challenge in terms of the people that will convey heavy loads for us to such places. The Kala-Balge situation is the one we're yet to get people to convey the items so we can pay," he said.
Asked when the agency would reach the refugees, Kanal said "This coming week, if we're able to get the conveyors. If some people from the area get to know about this, they may come forward to assist in conveying the items, and we will give them. It is the conveyors we're waiting for. If we get them, there's no problem."
He added that they also face security challenges but that they were working with the security operatives to ensure the items get to the refugees successfully.

Members of the United States Marines who are already in Maiduguri in fulfilment of the promise of President Barack Obama to assist Nigeria to search and rescue the girls, were said to have located the girls inside the dreaded Sambisa forest, using highly sophisticated Satellite equipment which combed the forest.
Also, one of the leaders of the terrorist group who participated in the abduction of the girls, their chief spy, has been arrested by the US Marines, through the use of an advanced interceptor equipment which was used to track the Boko Haram spy while he was exchanging information with Shekau and others inside Sambisa Forest…

Boko Haram Deadly Commander Abubakar Shekau Exposed

Do you want to know Abubakar Shekau? He is the face of terror. A ruthless leader with a twisted ideology. And the sadistic architect of a campaign of mayhem and misery. And yet, very little is known about Shekau, the leader of the dreaded Boko Haram terrorist group. Boko Haram SHEKAU 1 Boko Haram Deadly Commander Abubakar Shekau Exposed
Shehu+Sani+tweet+1 Boko Haram Deadly Commander Abubakar Shekau Exposed
He operates in the shadows, leaving his underlings to orchestrate his repulsive mandates. He resurfaces every once in a while in videotaped messages to mock the impotence of the Nigerian military. And he uses his faith to recruit the impressionable and the disenfranchised to his cause.
He’s elusive. Even his age is unknown — estimates range between 38 and 49. The U.S. State Department has Shekau’s year of birth listed as 1965, 1969 and 1975.
He’s a loner. Analysts describe Shekau as a loner and a master of disguise. He does not speak directly with members, opting to communicate through a few select confidants.
Shekau was born in Shekau village that borders Niger. He studied under a cleric and then…
Attended Borno State College of Legal and Islamic Studies for higher studies on Islam. That’s why he’s also known as ‘Darul Tawheed,’ which translates to an expert in monotheism, or the oneness of Allah.
He speaks several languages fluently: Hausa, Fulani, Kanuri and Arabic. But English isn’t one of them. After all, he heads a group that rejects all things Western.
He uses many aliases: Abu Bakr Skikwa, Imam Abu Bakr Shiku and Abu Muhammad Abu Bakr Bin Muhammad Al Shakwi Al Muslimi Bishku among them.

A credible source in the community, who did not want to be named, told Saturday Tribune that “this particular corpse was buried five years ago and the suspected ritualist attended the burial in Ilobu.”
He explained: “There are indications that he did not dig the grave alone. What we discovered is that he may have been attempting to cut off the head of the corpse when something suddenly hooked him as he managed to force half of his body into the grave to cut off the head.
“He got hooked and died on the spot, a development which possibly compelled other ritualists to run away from the scene so that they may not be affected by the mysterious thing that killed (their colleague).”
While commenting on how the residents of Ilobu got to know about the incident, since it happened in the wee hours, the source said a woman who was hawking ogi (a local corn meal) early in the morning of Wednesday spotted the torso of the suspect sticking out of the grave and raised the alarm.

Human parts dealer issues price list, says skull sells for N20,000

A 54year old grandmother Sukuratu Salami was yesterday May 5th paraded by the Lagos state police command alongside her accomplices, for her involvement in ritual killings and human parts sales.

Human parts seller Human parts dealer issues price list, says skull sells for N20,000
“A herbalist approached me last year and demanded for human parts. When he told me how much they buy the parts, I was tempted. I approached one Tantoloun, who works in a grave yard. He sold a skull for N10,000 and I sold it in return for N20,000. Greed made me to continue until I was arrested. I buy pieces of bones for N2,000, liver and intestines for N1,000 each and resell for N5,000 or more depending on the buyer’s bargaining power. I am not a killer. I have never killed anyone. I only request for decomposed human parts. I needed the money to feed my 3 children aged 30, 27 and 23. Those who patronize me are herbalists and trado-medical practitioners. The parts are used to prepare concoction for sick children. So far, I have only sold 10 human skulls.” she said.
Paraded with her was a cemetery worker, Rasheed Tantoloun and two others who were arrested by men of the Lagos state Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, in Joju area of Sango Ota, in possession of human head, intestines, bones, kidney and other human parts.
Rasheed in his statement said whenever his boss told him to dig up old gaves to make way for new burials, he would exhume this bodies and then sell them with the help of one Ibrahim whom he hired
“Anytime old corpses are exhumed, we usually collect the parts and sell to ready buyers who are usually agbo sellers (herbs dealers). My salary is N5,000 a month but since I started doing the business, I made three times more than the amount. We also dug corpses buried without caskets” he said

“She was arrested sometimes last year but to our surprise, she spent less than 24 hours as guest of the police at the State Criminal investigative Department in Akure (the state’s capital) before she bought her freedom.
“We learnt she’s so powerful and well connected to Abuja and we hope this arrest will not just be like the previous ones.”

The Founder of Living Faith Church aka Winners Chapel, Bishop David Oyedepo, in an interview with Saturday Punch said the reason there are so many rich people in 33 year old church is because they know better than others and understand the importance of tithe.

Below is excerpts from the interview…
oyedepo We are not ashamed to be called the church of the rich – Oyedepo
Why are there so many rich people in Winners?
Because they know better than their contemporaries. If you don’t know what you have, you won’t know if you are deprived of it. The Bible is an open chequebook, it is by revelation we access what belongs to us; by faith we take delivery of it. Someone had access to our empowerment programme and she is a pepper seller, while others sell one basket a day, she sells six, seven. I learnt she had become the envy of all the pepper sellers in her area. Such person has an understanding that whatever she does, she prospers and she knows that when she pays her tithe, she experiences open heavens. But in case people don’t know, they perish for lack of knowledge, and in case they think when you are rich you miss heaven, then they perish for lack of knowledge.
So, it’s right when people claim that this church is only for the rich?
It’s for all the people who believe that Jesus already paid for them to be rich. And those who don’t believe, when they come they start believing when they see it happen in a lot of people’s lives. And we are not ashamed to be called the church of the rich. If they call your family poor, will you be excited? Nobody would be excited. Even when a family is poor, they hate to be called poor. No man in his right mind enjoys being called poor, and nobody truly wants to be poor, people may pretend. Which is more honourable between being a giver and a beggar? Most of us came in very poor, but the light of God’s word came on us and we walked out of poverty in grand style into wealth and riches.
