The blast went off in Mubi in the Adamawa state, one of the three states that have been placed in a state of emergency because of a wave of violence by the Islamist militants, Boko Haram.
According to reports in the media most of the victims were supporters and not the players.
The explosion reportedly came from within the crowd as it was leaving after watching a local soccer match.
No one has immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.
Civilians in the northeast are particularly vulnerable to the Islamist militants because the military is unable to access most areas and Boko Haram is free to operate almost anywhere....
The group is responsible for the kidnapping of almost 300 schoolgirls from Chibok, in the northern Borno state over a month ago. The group is threatening to sell the girls into marriage and slavery, and already there have been reports of some of the girls sold for $12 (about R125) in neighbouring Chad and Cameroon.
