According to eyewitness report, the ‘hit and run’ driver was being
pursued by policemen for allegedly driving a vehicle without a plate
number.
It was gathered that the driver, who was running on a high speed, crashed the Jeep into Excellency Hairdressing Salon on 123 Oko Oba road, Agege, and in the process hit the teenage girl named Damilohun.
A source, who witnessed the accident when it happened, stated that Damilohun gave up the ghost immediately.
Reports stated that as soon as the girl was confirmed dead on the spot, the area turned into a mess with many sympathisers, especially neighbours, seeking retribution for the ugly incident.
A witness said that irate youths had stormed the scene of the accident and almost lynch the driver but for his craftiness as he ran away before he was held by anybody.
Policemen from Elere Division in Abattoir area of Agege had to shoot canisters to disperse the angry mob which had already vandalised the vehicle that hit the victim.
Iit was informed that the deceased young girl had returned from school that fateful day went to her mother’s shop to help her out.
"The young girl was a very hardworking girl who would not murmur whenever the mother sent her on errands.
"Damilohun’s death is very shocking, I just can’t believe this is happening," one of the neighbours said amid tears.
Another eyewitness, who identified himself as Mr.Nwadinpka Chinkwe, said that,"she was the first child of her parents so you can understand the agony which the mother might be going through now.
"I have known the young girl for a while now and can categorically tell you that she was a very promising child, hardworking and always obedient.
"It is unfortunate that fate took her away from us at such a tender age".
Efforts to reach the slain girl’s mother would yield no fruit as she was hitting herself on the ground and refused to be consoled by anybody screaming, "My life has been ruined!
Apart from Damilohun, another victim of the accident was Joy, who was said left the scene with a broken leg.
It was gathered that the Akwa-Ibom state born eight-year old girl was rushed to a nearby hospital for immediate attention before she was referred to Igbobi for further treatments.
"It was a green-stick fracture, my friend," the source said, pleading anonymity. "For the first time in my life, I saw someone’s skin just holding the body together after the bone had completely broken into two.
"She was rushed to Merit hospital around here but had to be transferred to Igbobi because the fracture was very serious. The parents are presently contemplating taking her to Ifo in Ogun State to help arrange the leg," he added.
When a temporary calm returned to the area, policemen took the vandalised vehicle away from the spot and also the corpse of little Damilohun in their truck.
