ACF Only Cares for Fulani Not Us-Northern Minorities

MINORITY ethnic groups in the North-West, North-Central and the North-East have threatened to pull out of the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), following what they called endless repeated killing of minorities in the North.

Leaders of the minority ethnic groups, according to findings by the Nigerian Tribune, had met in, at least, three different locations in recent times and had decided to issue a June 30 deadline to  the ACF to take meaningful steps to end killing of minorities or face complete boycott by minorities in the North.

A leader of the minorities from the North Central, who spoke to the Nigerian Tribune, said the minority groups had decided to take proper steps to defend their people.

groups had decided that they could not continue to sit in the same forum with ACF leaders who had refused to rein in the rampaging Fulani herdsmen, whose activities had led to the death of no fewer than 3,000 persons from the North West, North Central and North East in recent years.

“I can confirm to you that we have a movement which has come to the conclusion that the time has come for leaders of minority in the three zones of the North  to redeem their people.

“The ceaseless killings that have been going on in the North are targeted at the minorities and we must put an end to this,” the source added.

It stated further that the leaders of the minority groups had concluded that they could no longer sit together with leaders of the Hausa/Fulani in the North while their people were being killed by suspected Fulani herdsmen.

It was gathered that the minority groups came to the conclusion because of the fact that leaders of Hausa Fulani ethnic group in the North were notable patrons of the Miyetti Allah, and the Fulani herdsmen, whose clashes with farmers across the North had left huge casualties.

“The ACF has failed to prevent incessant killings of minority ethnic group members across the North. The decimation of the minorities amounts to another genocide. “We cannot continue to sit in a forum that cannot call its members to order, since it is confirmed that leaders of ACF are also patrons of the Miyetti Allah.

“No fewer than 3,000 persons have been killed in clashes with herdsmen in recent years by herdsmen who carry AK-47 rifles in the name of cattle rearing.

“The right to self determination of the people of this world is well recognised by the United Nations as well as the African Charter on Human and People’s Rights.

“The ACF must call the Miyetti Allah to order. There are known patrons of the group that can be called to intervene. If the killings of our people do not end before June 30, we will pull out of ACF and  chart a new course,” the Middle belt leader said.
